"My interest in joining the AIA Denver chapter’s board of directors stems from a genuine interest to become more involved in Colorado’s architectural community (specifically Denver). I have been a Colorado resident and professional since 2006. In 2010, I made a conscious decision to change career paths; moving to a firm that practices almost exclusively in the Denver area was the first step toward my goal of serving the community I live in. I view the AIA Denver board of directors as another venue in which I may grow professionally while serving our community through a volunteer engagement. As a new face to the board, I will bring rational decision making, accountability, a strong work ethic and positive attitude.”

Drew is a licensed architect, AIA member and a LEED accredited professional. He joined Acquilano Leslie in 2010 and brings exceptional abilities in design, space planning, project management and client relations. "The past couple years have been tough on our profession and the industry. As an organization, we have to ask ourselves how are we doing and what we can do to support our members. Now is the time for engagement from our members to help define what we do and we grow. Helping to implement and develop focused areas of the Strategic Plan will enable many architects to ‘get involved.’ Whether it’s on task forces, committees or participation in our continuing education programs, each one of us does make a difference. We will continue to serve our membership base through championing the voice of our profession, promoting the value of architects and providing learning opportunities to help professionals navigate this economy. Together we can share our enthusiasm and become a community that supports our passion for architecture and design.”

Kitty is licensed in architecture and interiors, working with Burkett Design Inc. She’s served on the AIA Denver board of directors for the past four years. For Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design’s Interior Design program, she serves as an Academic Advisory Board member. "As a director on the board of the AIA Denver chapter, I look forward to serving my colleagues as a voice that understands the challenges of today’s emerging professionals, and understands what we are capable of when given opportunities. Architects play a vital role when it comes to creating communities with a fabric of sustainability, and harnessing the energy and talents of the emerging generation of designers is imperative if we want to continue to build on our past successes. I look forward to opportunities to unite the design community and craft the new face of the profession. It is with excitement and anticipation that I look forward to working with the general public, so that they may look to us with respect for the work that we are able to do, not for them, but with them.”

Upon graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in Trumpet Performance, I was accepted to The University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture 3+ graduate program. Childhood ski vacations to Winter Park helped me decide that Colorado was the state for me, and a professionally well-connected aunt and a "Yes, I can do that” attitude landed me my first summer internship with Barker, Rinker, Seacat. The following summer I worked with Ohlson Lavoie Collaborative and later obtained permanent employment with RNL upon graduation. I completed IDP and my AREs concurrently (through the state of Texas) and achieved a Colorado license through reciprocity on December 24, 2010. Most recently, I am excited and honored to be one of six emerging professionals involved with the AIA Colorado Emerging Professionals Blog and look forward to continued contributions and collaborations.

Director
Keat Tan, AIA
klipp

keat "at” klipparch.com

"I will help reinforce the 2009-2014 Strategic Plan that was established and adopted. Helping to develop and implement design focus areas would be one of my interests for our members. Reinforcing our commitment and involvement by members with our local educational institutions would be an area of interest; promoting the younger and next generation of our profession to be involved is another. As a design architect, my interest clearly lies in the passion of promoting excellence in design for the city, community and the profession; championing what ‘must be’ even with the most stringent economics of the time; great design does not have to be expensive outcomes, in fact, it should not be in order to have a sustainable economy.”

Emmigrated from Malaysia, educated in London and New York, Keat Tan joined klipp architecture planning interiors in 2001 with over 20 years of national and international design experience. Keat has worked for Michael Graves and Associates in Princeton, N.J., The Hillier Group in New York and Princeton, N.J., and Hsin Yieh Architects in Hong Kong.
