What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) allows you to receive new events that we have added to the calendar at www.aiacolorado.org. As an example, you can receive updates on when your local chapter is hosting its next continuing education program or when the AIA Colorado Design Conference is occurring.

This allows you to stay up to date easily by having the content delivered directly to you. It is a little bit like the old-fashioned ticker-tape newswire machines.

Before you start

To use RSS, first you need an RSS reader (also called a feed aggregator or a news reader). This is a piece of software that checks RSS feeds and lets you read the items that interest you.

Generally speaking, there are two types of RSS readers:

  • Online versions – These are Web sites that allow you to log in and view the RSS feeds.
  • Computer desktop versions – These are available through your Internet browser or the program you use to read and send e-mail. Usually you have to download these to your computer before you begin. They gather RSS feed information and bring it directly to your computer.

Subscribing to RSS

Once you have an RSS reader, you can subscribe to an RSS feed of events from www.aiacolorado.org.

To subscribe to an RSS feed, follow these steps:

  1. From the above list, check the box next to which type of events you want to subscribe. A helpful tip is to subscribe to your local chapter and the state component (i.e., "AIA Denver” and "AIA Colorado”).
  2. You will see a page of programming code. Copy the one line of text that appears in your browser's 'address' field at the top of your screen. That one line of text is called the URL. It will start with 'http://'.
  3. Paste that URL into your RSS reader. Now you will receive an RSS feed from www.aiacolorado.org.

Using RSS on your site

If you operate your own website, you can use RSS feeds from www.aiacolorado.org to display our events information. We encourage organizations to use the RSS feeds available on www.aiacolorado.org; however, we require that you credit the source to www.aiacolorado.com.
